Shipping Containers Strike Again In SF’s Hayes Valley

First Smitten Ice Cream, then Ritual Coffee. Now it’s LA’s Aether Apparel who has taken to running their business out of recycled shipping containers in SF’s Hayes Valley. Love it or hate it?

Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone’s 2013 color of the year? Emerald.  Here’s a look at the psychology behind the color green:

Green is a cool color that symbolizes nature and the natural world.

Green also represents tranquility, good luck, health, and jealousy.

Researchers have also found that green can improve reading ability. Some students may find that laying a transparent sheet of green paper over reading material increases reading speed and comprehension.

Green has long been a symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century. Even today, green M & M’s (an American chocolate candy) are said to send a sexual message.

Green is often used in decorating for its calming effect. For example, guests waiting to appear on television programs often wait in a “green room” to relax.

Green is thought to relieve stress and help heal. Those who have a green work environment experience fewer stomachaches.

Inspiration

In working on a project designing a prefab home with a humble 30’x30′ footprint, and, at a minimum, a 100 sq. ft. of outdoor space on the ground level, I’ve mulled over many images and ideas for floor plans and materials……Above is a collage of some of the initial inspirational spaces. Happy weekend. Thanks to the Veterans. xoImages via Pinterest.

Weekend: Shopping and Bargain Hunting

I’ve been propositioned with the task of finding nice, used furniture for a living/dining room space. Pictured are my craigslist selections so far, and what we’re aiming to pick up this weekend. Maybe/hopefully I’ll also find some time over the weekend to hunt the garage sales and flea markets for some more bargains! San Francisco is full of nice, inexpensive second-hand furniture…I think it’s just a matter of putting in the work to find it. These three craigslist selections would retail for about $2,800.00, not to mention shipping and handling fees and taxes, so definitely worth the search time! Happy weekend my friends. xo

One Kearny / Herman Miller Showroom

After our Interior Finishes and Materials final exam yesterday, we walked over to the Herman Miller showroom at One Kearny and got a little history about the company and a look around their space on the 9th floor. We were also escorted up to the private 11th floor, which is a newly remodeled retreat or conference space rented out by the owner of the building and full of great Herman Miller pieces.
