It’s not so much about the designer names here, or a complex design scheme…but what I love about this interior is how honest and happy it somehow feels. I’m not usually a fan of wood panels, but I like the squares here, and the checkered floor in the hallway is so perfectly worn, it tells a story of life lived. It’s raining today and I’d love to have the day to myself with a fat stack of magazines! That and the gold cord exposed bulb pendant make this the interior of the day! Happy Tuesday…3 days til L.A.!!
Yesterday was a lovely February San Francisco day (today’s not bad either!) and I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon at the San Francisco Design Center, amidst the Design San Francisco event and the winter market. First I toured the lovely Baker showroom. Then I sat in on an inspiring and very informational panel discussion regarding licensing versus manufacturing furniture and the likes. Finally, I strolled the grounds of Restoration Hardware, wine in hand…lovely event, wonderful design center! Here’s to San Francisco and good design…enjoy my humble photos.
Today is another cold, dark, wet one in SF. Football is in the air and I suspect many of us are off with family or friends watching the game. I spent my morning with my wonderful boyfriend and the afternoon with a Reiki energy worker in the Marina.
I was drawn to the idea of energy work, after a referral from a good friend, almost immediately because I, like many of us perhaps, feel a little (or a lot) ‘stuck’ in certain areas. After an insightful (and tearful) session, I am happy to say I home home safe and sound, happily working away on projects that really do inspire me. I was reminded to let, and will continue to work on letting, that precious light inside myself shine. These winter months are for embracing the quiet, reflective time inside and I will certainly turn to my home, my sancturary, for some comfort and guidance. Candles are lit, sage is burning. Happy ‘Sun’day my friends. xo
I started reading Terence Conran’s Easy Living last night and woke up feeling calmer and more rested than usual. This easily translates into a good mood– a sense of happy, even. Maybe it’s because I was reminded to notice the light sneaking in through the windows this morning, or because I had a new re-found appreciation for the way my blankets felt- heavy and warm. Maybe after so much was accomplished this weekend, Monday just feels breezy- routine and expected can actually be pleasant sometimes. Easy Living helped remind me that things don’t always have to be hard. Sounds simple enough, but I don’t think I’m the only one that, every now and again, makes things more complicated than they have to be.
Our lives are so full and crazy and that is all the more reason why our homes are so important- they can serve as our allies, our sacred retreats. They are the place where living can be easy, healing, restful. So here’s to good design, to home and to this great book, which gracefully guides us towards and breaks down the elements of “easy”.
