Interior of the Day

Via STIL iInspiration:

It’s not so much about the designer names here, or a complex design scheme…but what I love about this interior is how honest and happy it somehow feels.  I’m not usually a fan of wood panels, but I like the squares here, and the checkered floor in the hallway is so perfectly worn, it tells a story of life lived.  It’s raining today and I’d love to have the day to myself with a fat stack of magazines! That and the gold cord exposed bulb pendant make this the interior of the day! Happy Tuesday…3 days til L.A.!!

Great prints in frames reminiscent of oversized polaroid film and seductive textures make this my interior pick of the day. xo, co

Happiness is…

Go Green

Green is nature’s color and represents health and growth.  It also has a calming effect on the human brain– Celebrities waiting to go out to a TV interview often wait in a ‘green room’ to calm nerves, and mint green is the choice for many hospital rooms because of the proven calming effect it has on patients. Personally, I just like this kitchen….and you’re less likely to overeat around the color green, unlike it’s compliment, red, which is very stimulating.

Chevron Love!

Talk about energizing! I am loving the Chevron pattern (an ode to the ancient Egyptians) on chairs, rugs, in fashion….just about anywhere! Careful using it with strong colors in the bedroom though- those zigs and zags could keep you up all night….That being said I should cover my bathroom in Chevron to stimulate myself early in the morning– when I guarantee you I’d rather still be in bed!

Where would you want to see this pattern? Would you stick to black and white like me or invite colors to the party? Cheers friends! xo, co

Black and Orange

Did I mention I love the Giants?! However, I have to admit I have never really welcomed orange into my favorite color club. Red-orange? Yes. Yellow-orange? Maybe. Orange-orange? Ehh, I’m trying.

What do you think about the use of various oranges with blacks in these interior spaces?

A light gray and beige bedroom with red-orange and dark grays.

An orange, white and dark gray bedroom.

White seems to be present in all the examples shown, and I think it’s an important balancing factor with a color as strong as orange.

Love it? Hate it? Is it better in small doses? Or should we just leave black and orange to the Giants? Beat L.A.!!

Happiness is always only a sunny beach inspired color away!

Coral may be the new turquoise (and I’m totally behind this!), but I still get so happy every time I catch a glimpse of anything in the cool sea breeze, beach, summer, sunny day blue-green inspired family of colors.

Today: a pair of sea green vintage chairs in front of Zonal (awesome store!) as I was walking in Hayes Valley to grab a quick spicy tuna roll at Domo. Seeing these chairs, I was momentarily transported to an imaginary warm sand-sun beaming-breeze blowing blissful place. A gust of wind on the shady side of the street quickly snapped me back though, and while my lunch break has come and gone, my daily dream of being on the beach lives on! August, where are you…?!

(To keep the beach cravings at bay, I currently have Orly’s adorable Gumdrop on my toes!)

Happy Friday my friends, coco
